A pilot project for science centres in Norway
During the period 2001 – 2003, Jærmuseet received a total of 11 MNOK through the Norwegian national budget toward building science centre exhibitions at “Vitengarden” (the Science Farm) – as a pilot project for science centres in Norway.
The Norwegian Ministry of Culture would like the exhibitions at Jærmuseet to inspire other museums in Norway to start using science centre education and more interactive methods of communication.
Science Centre for South-Western Norway
In 2003, the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research (now called the Ministry of Knowledge) established six regional science centres with responsibility for developing and arranging regional science centre activities.
Jærmuseet was given responsibility for South-Western Norway, i.e. the counties of Rogaland, Vest- and Aust-Agder.
