In addition to all our science museum activities, we are focussing on oat mill history in our very own historic mill right here in Sandnes. Join us and try your hand in crushing oats, baking and tasting! Hear all about the mills of Sandnes and the nutritional value of oats.

The oat mills in Sandnes have been a major driving force for the development of the town.  Why did Sandnes become the great mill town which produced 2/3 of rolled oats in Norway, and had 12 large mills?

Sandnes has a long history of processing oats from Jæren. It all started with village mills, transforming into a major industry with large electric mills, turning Sandnes into “the mill town”.  One of these was Krossen’s Oat Mill, a fully preserved mill that today is a museum. Step back in time and see the machines as they were in the 1950’s.

Vitenfabrikken is open from 11:00 to 17:00 on Sunday’s.
