Season opening

14. June - 16. June
Flyhistorisk Museum Sola, Sola Prestegårdsveg 170, Sola

The aviation museum in Sola har expanded its exhibition area with a new exhibition hall. We are finally ready to open this, as well as the rest of the museum to the public. The first opening day for the aviation museun in 2024 will be Friday 14th June. The opening hours are extended due to the Sola Airshow, which takes place 15th – 16th June. We know that many of our guests want to visit the museum since they are already attending the airshow. The opening hours that weekend will be:

  • Friday 14th June: 5pm – 8pm
  • Saturday 15th June: 2pm – 8pm
  • Sundag 16th June: 12am – 4pm

From 23rd June untill 11th August the museum will be open Tuesdays – Sundays, and from 18th August untill November it will be open on Sundays.

The exhibition “We who flew during the Cold War” is based on an ongoing Phd by curator in Jærmuseet, Sondre B. Hvam, about Norwegian military pilots during the Cold War. The exhibition shows aircraft from this time period and the stories of eight selected military pilots during the Cold War.

Because several planes had to move out from the old and original hangar to the new exhibition building, the association of friends of the museum has put in an impressive amount of work to clean, move and prepare all planes and helicoptres on display at the museum. New lighting has also been installed in the existing hanger. The public will therefore experience the entire museum in a new glory – both the existing hangar, the new exhibition hall and also the exhibition in the Torpedo workshop.

A new foyer has also been built. This will contain reception, show, café and an educational room. This building will not be ready for use until a later date. Entrance to the museum will therefore be in the original hangar for the time being.
