The museum is mainly run by volunteers who work hard and with lots of enthusiasm, in the museum. They do restoration of old planes, guided tours and various operational tasks. Beside housing all the jet planes the Norwegian Air Force have previously operated, you will find everything from WWII classizs consolidated Catalina and Fiesler Storch to classics from Norwegian civil aviation in the postwar period amongs the museus’s exhibition of 30 planes.
The exhibition is in three different halls:
Civil and military aviation: 30 aircrafts are on display in a hangar from the Second World War. The collection consists of both civilian and military aircraft. Some of the German aircraft from the Second World War are very rare!
The Cold War: In 2024, the exhibition “We who flew under the Cold War” will open in a new exhibition hall. Here you will meet eight fighters and pilots who served during the Cold War.
The torpedo workshop: Here, World War II, is mediated through a selection of people with local affiliations.
Outside the Aviation museum you will find Douglas DC-6B. The plane was used by Braathens in the 60s and 70s and was flown from Alaska to Sola in 2020.
Flyhistorisk Museum Sola is largely run by volunteers who put a lot of work and enthusiasm into running the museum.
Jærmuseet has worked closely with the Aviation History museum since 1997, and in January 2002 the museum overtook the operational responsibility of the museum.
The museum is open from April through to November.
