{"id":423,"date":"2013-08-08T10:36:03","date_gmt":"2013-08-08T09:36:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jaermuseet.no\/garborgsenteret\/nobelprisen-og-garborg\/"},"modified":"2024-01-12T15:58:28","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T13:58:28","slug":"nobelprisen-og-garborg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jaermuseet.no\/garborgsenteret\/nobelprisen-og-garborg\/","title":{"rendered":"Nobelprisen og Garborg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Og d\u00e5 Garborg vart nominert for siste gong i 1921, ville ikkje Akademien gje prisen til Noreg to gonger p\u00e5 rad&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><i> &#8220;man k\u00e4nner honom ej fullt, om man endast l\u00e4st hans mycket bekannta, ganska motbjudande arbete \u201dMannfolk\u201d&#8221;<\/i><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>1902<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Arne Garborg<\/i> er en f\u00f6rfattare som, nu femtioett \u00e5r gammal, hunnit genoml\u00f6pa m\u00e5nga utvecklingsstadier fr\u00e5n pietism genom frit\u00e4nkeri och boh\u00eame-tendenser till nyv\u00e4ckt religi\u00f6st allvar. Man k\u00e4nner honom ej fullt, om man endast l\u00e4st hans mycket bekannta, ganska motbjudande arbete \u201dMannfolk\u201d. Han har i andra arbeten, s\u00e5 som \u201dTr\u00e6tte M\u00e6nd\u201d, gjort en frontf\u00f6r\u00e4ndring och j\u00e4mv\u00e4l andra af hans alster utvisa, att han i allo \u00f6fvergifvit den negativa och oetiska st\u00e5ndpunkt han under en tid indtagit. Till Nobelprisets ern\u00e5ende har han f\u00f6reslagits uterslutande med anledning af hans &#8220;I Helheim&#8221;. Dette arbete, skrifvet p\u00e5 bygdem\u00e5l, har ock sin m\u00e4rklighet s\u00e5som ett tankerikt och \u00e4delt diktverk af ganska djup religi\u00f6s inneb\u00f6rd. Byggd p\u00e5 Eddas\u00e5nger och forns\u00e4gner, har det i sin skildring af andev\u00e4rldens riken och de luttringar eller vederg\u00e4llningar, andarne d\u00e4r hafva att genomg\u00e5, mycken etisk styrka och mycken upph\u00f6jdhet, men lider af en viss l\u00e5ngtr\u00e5dighet och ensformighet, som endast tillf\u00e4lligtvis genombrytas af verkligt poesirika episoder. Den starka konkretion, som utm\u00e4rker Dantes likartade skildringar, med hvilka \u201dI Helheim\u201d of\u00f6rsiktigt j\u00e4mf\u00f6rts, saknas alltf\u00f6r mycket i Garborgs dikt, och det i m\u00e5nga afseenden gripande arbetet n\u00e5r i poetiskt afseende knappast upp till det m\u00e5tt, som f\u00f6r ett pris af stor internationell betydenhet erfordras.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><i> &#8220;jag anser \u00e4fven hans litter\u00e4ra betydelse f\u00f6rn\u00e4mligast vara f\u00f6rknippad med intresset f\u00f6r hans s\u00e4rskilda lokala nationalism eller lingvistiska partikularism&#8221;<\/i><\/strong><\/span><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>1916<br \/>\n&#8220;Ang\u00e5ende <i>Arne Garborg<\/i> og <i>Gunnar Heiberg<\/i> \u00e5beropar jag [Harald Hj\u00e4rne] Herr Hallstr\u00f6ms redog\u00f6relser, till hvilkas resultat jag f\u00f6r min del ansluter mig. Skulle n\u00e5gon af dessa f\u00f6rfattare anses v\u00e4rd uppmerksamhet ved Akademiens prisutdelning, s\u00e5 vore det onekligen Garborg. Men jag vill ej f\u00f6rd\u00f6lja, att jag anser \u00e4fven hans litter\u00e4ra betydelse f\u00f6rn\u00e4mligast vara f\u00f6rknippad med intresset f\u00f6r hans s\u00e4rskilda lokala nationalism eller lingvistiska partikularism, s\u00e5 som ocks\u00e5 en af f\u00f6rslagsst\u00e4llarne, prof. Seippel i Christiania, uttryckligen betonar. Det norska folkm\u00e5let har dock otvifvelaktigt tett sig s\u00e5 som ett spelbarare poetiskt instrument i Garborgs h\u00e4nder \u00e4n t.ex. det ukrainska i Ivan Frankos.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>1917<br \/>\n\u201dHerr Hallstr\u00f6m har i fjor uttalat sig om Arne Garborg och i \u00e5r om Olaf Bull. Af dessa utl\u00e5tanden, till hvilka jag [Harald Hj\u00e4rne] h\u00e4nvisar, framg\u00e5r att den f\u00f6rre redan nu kan betraktas s\u00e5 som en m\u00f6jlig kandidat till Nobelpriset, och att \u00e4fven den senare har \u00e5dalagt en betydande poetisk beg\u00e5fning, men knappast \u00e4nnu kan anses v\u00e4rd ett Nobelpris.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><i> &#8220;en alldeles s\u00e4rskildt nationell diktkonst&#8221;<\/i><\/strong><\/span><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>1920<br \/>\n\u201dArne Garborg har i \u00e5r blifvit fr\u00e5n norsk sida och af m\u00e5nga auktoriteter f\u00f6reslagen med h\u00f6ga loford. Det \u00e4r tydligt, att hans val till pristagare skulle i Norge h\u00e4lsas med stort bifall, s\u00e4rskildt om det skedde p\u00e5 grund af hans egendomliga dikt \u201dHaugtussa\u201d och dess forts\u00e4ttning \u201dI Helheim\u201d, som onekligen pr\u00e4glas af en alldeles s\u00e4rskildt nationell diktkonst. Herr Hallstr\u00f6m, som s\u00e5v\u00e4l nu som i sitt utl\u00e5dande af 1916 \u00e4gnat Garborgs f\u00f6rfattarskap en i mycket sympatisk uppskatning, \u00e4r dock ej ben\u00e4gen att s\u00e4tta honom s\u00e5 h\u00f6gt, att han vill tilerk\u00e4nna honom ett Nobelpris. F\u00f6r min del tilltror jag [Harald Hj\u00e4rne] mig ej att afvika fr\u00e5n hans \u00e5sikt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><i> &#8220;Garborgs olyckliga och sj\u00e4lvf\u00f6rst\u00f6rande Enoch Haave \u00e4r en h\u00f6gre typ \u00e4n Hamsuns grofva nybyggare, s\u00e5 l\u00e4nge det \u00e4r sant, att m\u00e4nniskan icke allenast lefver af br\u00f6d&#8221;<\/i><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><i> &#8220;b\u00e5de d\u00e4r och i Hamsuns \u00f6friga alstring saknar jag den kultur, den genomt\u00e4nkta v\u00e4rlds\u00e5sk\u00e5dning och den humanitet, som jag m\u00e5ste fordra af en Nobelpristagare&#8221;<\/i><\/strong><\/span><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u201d1920 f\u00f6reslogs Hamsun \u00e5ter, och inom Nobelinstitutet afgaf Herr Hallstr\u00f6m d\u00e5 ett nytt yttrande om Hamsun och Garborg gemensamt, hvilket mynnade ut i f\u00f6ljande v\u00e4rdes\u00e4ttning:<br \/>\n\u201dJ\u00e4mf\u00f6r man de b\u00e5da bonderomanerna <i>Fred<\/i> och <i>Markens Gr\u00f8de<\/i>, \u00e4r den senare utan tvifvel konstn\u00e4rligt mer betydande i sin klara, friska och vida skildringskonst, liksom den er m\u00e4nskligt mer intagande i sin harmoni med lifvets makter. Men Garborgs olyckliga och sj\u00e4lvf\u00f6rst\u00f6rande Enoch Haave \u00e4r en h\u00f6gre typ \u00e4n Hamsuns grofva nybyggare, s\u00e5 l\u00e4nge det \u00e4r sant, att m\u00e4nniskan icke allenast lefver af br\u00f6d, och tragiken i hans sj\u00e4ls kamp griper \u00e4fven poetiskt djupare \u00e4n den m\u00f6dans triumf i det materiella, som <i>Markens Gr\u00f8de<\/i> s\u00e5 kraftigt och vackert firar. Som jag redan i mitt f\u00f6rra utl\u00e5tande sagt, skulle man vilja ha visshet om, att Hamsun har f\u00f6r afsikt att bygga n\u00e5got vidare p\u00e5 sin lyckligt och sent uppt\u00e4ckta visdom, innan man sk\u00e4nker honom en utm\u00e4rkelse, som upph\u00f6jer hela hans s\u00e5 ofta bet\u00e4nkliga alstring till ett prisv\u00e4rdt lifsverk.\u201d<br \/>\nF\u00f6r min del ansluter jag [Henrik Sch\u00fcck] mig i det hela till Herr Hallstr\u00f6ms yttrande. Jag anser <i>Markens Gr\u00f8de<\/i> som ett betydande konstverk, men b\u00e5de d\u00e4r och i Hamsuns \u00f6friga alstring saknar jag den kultur, den genomt\u00e4nkta v\u00e4rlds\u00e5sk\u00e5dning och den humanitet, som jag m\u00e5ste fordra af en Nobelpristagare. Kommitt\u00e9en \u2013 \u00e4fven Herrar Hj\u00e4rne og Hallstr\u00f6m \u2013 har emellertid alldeles \u00e4ndrat mening och f\u00f6resl\u00e5r nu <i>Markens Gr\u00f8de<\/i> till \u00e5rets Nobelpris.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>1921<br \/>\n\u201dHvad Arne Garborg, f\u00f6resl\u00e4gen af professor Fritz L\u00e4ffler, under det senast f\u00f6rflutna \u00e5ret utgifvit, efter hvad herr Hallstr\u00f6m meddelar, synes ej heller mig [Harald Hj\u00e4rne] \u00e4gnadt att f\u00f6rst\u00e4rka hans utsikter till ett Nobelpris. S\u00e5som jag redan i fjor uttalade, \u00e4r jag p\u00e5 grund af hela hans f\u00f6rfattarskap icke ben\u00e4gen att obetingadt f\u00f6resl\u00e5 honom till priset, ehuru jag d\u00e5 icke hade n\u00e5gonting emot en delning emellan honom och Hamsun. Men f\u00f6r \u00f6vrigt l\u00e4r det v\u00e4l ej komma i fr\u00e5ga att l\u00e5ta \u00e4fven detta \u00e5rs pris g\u00e5 till Norge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Komiteen sine innstillingar var grunnlaget for akademiets (inntil 18 medlemmer) r\u00f8ysting. Ved einskilde tilfelle kom dei til andre resultat enn komiteens. Ettersom arbeidet med \u00e5 plukka ut vinnaren skal vera konfidensielt, vart dokumenta me her har henta utdrag fr\u00e5, f\u00f8rst publiserte etter 50 \u00e5r.<\/p>\n<p>Trass i all konfidensialiteten har b\u00e5de ekspertar og legfolk for vane \u00e5 utpeika favorittar forut for utdelinga, og i 1920 verkar det som om mange forventa Garborg. Etter &#8220;nederlaget&#8221; samla m\u00e5lr\u00f8rsla inn ein tr\u00f8ystepremie til han: 104 000 kroner (to tredelar av Nobelprisen) og ein ponni. Ikkje verst det, for ein gammal bondestudent.<\/p>\n<p>Me kan elles legga til at d\u00e5 Garborg vart nominert i 1902, var han saman med Ibsen og Bj\u00f8rnson f\u00f8rste nordmann som fekk ei slik \u00e6re (ingen nordmenn var nominerte i prisens f\u00f8rste \u00e5r, 1901).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vinnarar omtalte \u00e5r<\/strong><br \/>\n1902: Theodor Mommsen, Tyskland<br \/>\n1916: Verner von Heidenstam, Sverige<br \/>\n1917: Karl Gjellerup og Henrik Pontoppidan, Danmark<br \/>\n1920: Knut Hamsun, Noreg<br \/>\n1921: Anatole France, Frankrike<\/p>\n<p><strong>M\u00e5lr\u00f8rsla var s\u00e6rs skuffa etter utdeling i 1920 og samla inn ei sv\u00e6r folkeg\u00e5ve til Garborg for \u00e5 visa at dei sette pris p\u00e5 han.
