Det var spesielt godt egnet\u00a0til \u00e5 trene nattflyging, akrobatflyging, radiobruk under\u00a0flyging og instrumentflyging.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flyene ble ogs\u00e5 brukt i en st\u00f8tterolle for operative\u00a0avdelinger der de transporterte viktig personell\u00a0og til \u00e5 slippe sm\u00e5 bomber ved frontlinjen. I tillegg\u00a0ble flyene brukt til rekognosering.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flyet gjennomf\u00f8rte sin f\u00f8rste flygning i&nbsp;1937. H\u00f8sten 1939 ble det tatt i bruk ved&nbsp;tyske flyskoler. Det kom i ulike versjoner og&nbsp;ble til sammen produsert i n\u00e6rmere 2900&nbsp;eksemplar. I starten ble flyene produsert ved&nbsp;Arado&nbsp;Flugzeugwerke&nbsp;i Tyskland. Senere ble&nbsp;produksjonen flyttet til Tsjekkoslovakia,&nbsp;der flyet fikk navnet Avia C-2B.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Museets eksemplar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Museets fly er en ubev\u00e6pnet&nbsp;Arado&nbsp;Ar 96B-1.&nbsp;Det var blant annet stasjonert p\u00e5 Herdla&nbsp;utenfor Bergen. 13. mars 1943 havarerte&nbsp;det p\u00e5 vei fra Herdla til Sola. Over B\u00f8mlo&nbsp;fikk det motorproblemer. Flygeren, Fritz&nbsp;M\u00fchlberger, klarte \u00e5 n\u00f8dlande p\u00e5&nbsp;Storavatnet&nbsp;ved Bremnes.&nbsp;M\u00fchlberger&nbsp;overlevde,&nbsp;men ble senere skutt ned og drept i en&nbsp;Focke&nbsp;Wulf&nbsp;Fw&nbsp;58&nbsp;Weihe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flyet ble hevet i 1992. I nesten 50 \u00e5r hadde&nbsp;det st\u00e5tt under vann med nesa i mudderet.&nbsp;Bortsett fra felger, motor, motordeksler,&nbsp;diverse deksler og&nbsp;canopyen&nbsp;(pleksiglasset&nbsp;over cockpiten), var maskinen komplett og&nbsp;n\u00e6rmest intakt. Det ble likevel et stort&nbsp;arbeid \u00e5 restaurere flyet. Maskinen ble&nbsp;h\u00f8ytrykksspylt i flere omganger f\u00f8r det aller&nbsp;meste ble demontert for videre rengj\u00f8ring&nbsp;og restaurering. Etter rengj\u00f8ring ble vingene&nbsp;spr\u00f8ytet innvendig med penetrerende&nbsp;v\u00e6ske. Kroppen ble strippet for deler og&nbsp;p\u00e5f\u00f8rt lakkfjerning f\u00f8r den ble grunnet.&nbsp;Alle instrumenter var p\u00e5 plass, men de&nbsp;var fylt med vann og delvis korrodert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deler av flyet er bygd opp p\u00e5 nytt igjen av&nbsp;medlemmer i museets venneforening,&nbsp;blant annet&nbsp;canopyen&nbsp;som ble kastet&nbsp;av da flygeren forlot flyet.
