Collections and documentation

Jærmuseet has extensive collections of agricultural implements, which document technological developments in Norwegian agriculture in the 1900s in particular. Documentation of the mechanised and mechanical implement culture in Norwegian agriculture is one of the museum’s main tasks.

Tempo motorcycles and mopeds (The Øglænd Collection)

The Øglænd Collection, formerly Øglænd’s company museum, has been packed away due to construction work at Vågen. The history of Øglænd will be presented again in the second building phase of “Vitenfabrikken”.

Tempo motorcycles and mopeds were produced by Jonas Øglænd in Sandnes, which for many years was a mainstay company in Sandnes and were big in commerce, ready-to-wear clothing and cycle production.

The agricultural implement industry in Jæren

From the end of the 1800s, several small forges and factories which made agricultural implements, were established in the region of Jæren.

Bricks, roof tiles and pottery

The collections contain products from local brickworks: bricks and roof tiles, but mostly from the potteries that were established at the end of the 1920s.
The museum also has equipment from the earthenware industry.

Private archives

Jærmuseet looks after private archives from companies involved in food production, industry, expert groups in agriculture, farm archives and associations.

Photo gallery

Jærmuseet has more than 100 000 photos in various collections. The largest collections are part of the industrial archive, with Kvernelands Fabrikk AS and Jonas Øglænd AS being the largest of these. We also have photo collections connected to the documentation project. These collections consist of own photos and copies of photos in private ownership. The largest collection here is from the "Med sauen til heis" project (Taking the sheep to the mountain pasture).
